Charging your phone to 100 per cent? You might be killing your battery
Most modern smartphones come with non-removeable batteries. And with Samsung and Google now offering more than half a decade of software updates, many are wondering if their phone’s battery will hold up in years to come.
Charging your smartphone to 100% regularly can accelerate battery degradation over time. Lithium-ion batteries, commonly used in smartphones, experience increased wear when consistently maintained at full charge. To prolong battery lifespan, it's advisable to keep your device's charge between 20% and 80%.
Many smartphones offer features like "Optimized Battery Charging" (iPhone) or "Adaptive Charging" (Android) that learn your charging habits and limit charging to 80% until just before you typically unplug the device. Enabling these settings can help maintain battery health.
Additionally, avoid exposing your phone to high temperatures and refrain from using it while charging, as heat can further degrade the battery. Using manufacturer-recommended chargers ensures stable current flow, reducing the risk of overheating.
By adopting these practices, you can enhance your smartphone's battery longevity and overall performance.
